My Therapeutic Style

I balance teaching practical skills to help you manage life circumstances in the here and now, while also going back to the past to better understand how the past continues to impact the here and now.

Helping you grow and flourish and become who
you’re meant to be.

I work with people who are struggling with…

  • Identity: Negative thoughts and beliefs about themselves…

  • Anxiety: feeling constantly “on edge” and/or nervous, panic attacks, worrying incessantly, managing racing thoughts…

  • Depression: feeling down, low energy, numb, low motivation, like you are living in black and white instead of color…

  • Trauma: feeling like the rug was pulled out from under you, perhaps by something like sexual assault, childhood trauma, toxic family stress, or a specific incident like a car accident. You may feel on edge, have flashbacks or nightmares, and feel like you are “waiting for the other shoe to drop”…

  • Life transitions: managing large changes in life such as moves, changing jobs, starting a business, becoming a parent, re-entry and crosscultural transitions…

What does counseling actually look like?

In sessions, we will work to examine the narratives that we’ve learned through life experiences about ourselves, others, and the world and rework those narratives to be more helpful in the present and future. And always, I aim to adjust therapy to meet your individual needs and goals.

A more technical description…
I draw from a variety of counseling orientations and methods:

  • CBT: Identify the cycle between thoughts, emotions and behaviors and learn strategies to rewrite those to be more helpful.

  • DBT: Learn to manage the emotional roller coaster of life through mindfulness, skills to manage crisis and distress, and communication and relationships strategies that help you connect with loved ones.

  • Family Systems: Examine the family roles and dynamics that shaped and influenced you. Learn healthier boundaries, effective communication skills.

  • EMDR: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing is a therapy that uses Bilateral Stimulation to bring change on a neurological level to address traumas and fears that are currently holding you hostage. Read more about EMDR.

Life can throw us many challenges and obstacles that can be difficult to overcome.
My goal as a therapist is to offer a fresh perspective and outside point of view as you navigate your way through life.

Christian Counseling

For those interested in a faith-based perspective, I offer Christian counseling. The hope of healing is more profound in light of the HOPE we have in Christ. Christian counseling combines faith and Biblical truths with counseling theory to move you not only toward psychological and emotional healing but also toward a deeper and more authentic relationship with God. I believe that God desires to identify the roots of trauma and pain to shine a light on true healing and wholeness for your life.
